Which video card is best for the price?

NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 1GB $170

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 896MB $221

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 1GB $250

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 1792MB $500

Gonna be used for gaming. Sims 3, Spore, etc. Trying to figure a price on a decent self-built gaming computer. Thanks.|||well, most enthusiasts are gonna say "get the 295" right off the bat or at least the 285.

But i would actually go for the 250. That puts out pretty well, even better than the 9800 and most games don't even need the 9800 for recommended requirements.

the 250 is also the lowest powered one, requiring only 450 watt PSU i think. (particulary if you choose BFG brand)

If power requirements aren't an issue and you really want to push games at high settings, you might consider the 275, but any more than that is probably overkill|||Personally I would go with GTS 250 1GB or the GTX 275 they are cheap enough and you won't need to upgrade them for quiet sometime. You can go even lower to run those video games. I own 8600gt and on just on dual-core processor they run great even on a single core processor that I have also they run flawlessly, you can't really pull off though highest settings with one core but they will run. 8600gt (low profile) costs like 40 bucks.

Better yet I would go with 9600gt low profile low power, it's pretty hard to get though but it only needs 60w and runs very fast, but because it's really hard to get it's close to the cost of GTS 250 it's sold on e-bay in UK and Australia for about 140 bucks, but since you looking at these high graphics cards I would go with the original 9600gt or 9800gt.

Of course 9800gt is superb and it's pretty cheap too.

Good luck.|||For those kinds of games (Spore, Sims, World of Warcraft) you don't need anything above a GTS 250... which can be found for around $125 these days. And you can get identical performance to a GTS250 from the $100 (after rebate) Radeon 4850.

The GTX 260/Radeon 4870 and higher are only needed for really high-end titles like Crysis, GTA IV, Assasins Creed, Call of Duty 5, Age of Conan etc.

Best bang/buck cards in each price range:|||i would go for the gtx 275 but if the gtx 285 is only 29.00 bux more thats what i would go with....thats more then enough to run the games listed there, but you probably wont need a upgrade for quite a while..especially if you decide you wanna start playing crisis or gta 4 then your prepared and it wont cost you any money.......and thats the whole point really.......jmho.......
