What would be a GREAT video card to buy?

Saying i have a MAX price range at 450 bucks. What would be a GREAT video card? And what would its capabilities be? As this is for being able to play better video games, please give an example of what the "highest" game i could play. By that i mean a game that would be "hard to play" as in it would take a top of the line computer to play it. When answering this question ASSUME all of the other parts of my computer are top of the line.|||In that price range, I would go for an ATI HD 5870. The only graphics card better than that one is the ATI HD 5970, which is two 5870 GPUs on a single card (and costs around $700). There are a number of good brands of that chipset in that price range. This search will show you what's available at Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

That card should be able to play any game currently out. Exactly how fast it would be would depend on which game, what graphics effects you enable (anti-aliasing, particle effects, etc) and the resolution of your monitor. To get some idea, look at the high-end graphics benchmarks here: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gamin… Choose any one of the games to see how it fares. You can also see what effect screen resolution and graphics processing have on frame rates for various games.

The feature about the ATI HD 5000 series cards that I would really like to try is Eyefinity - the ability to use three or six monitors side-by-side as one single monitor. Imagine 5760x2400 resolution. Check out the videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzGtxlaPQ… and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHHxY8l00… and branch out from there.|||Ok, so first of all, don't listen to paulk499, he sounds like a total knowledge-less Nvidia fanboy.

Currently, the best single graphics card on the market (that means excluding Nvidia GTX 295 and ATi 5970) is the ATI 5870. This graphics card is extremely powerful and will EASILY handle any game on the market that you may desire to play. It will be able to play high end games in the future at great settings for at least the next 2-3 years, so very future proof.

It can be found for as little as $379 from newegg.com

Hope this helps! :)|||5870 with out question is the best single solution PCIe video card out at the moment....its dx11 ready and you can pick one up for 400.00 to 500.00 bux at newegg.com......

Assuming you have all top of the line hardware you could play anything you want on high settings for the next year or 2.......

If you had more money to spend I would go with the radeon 5970 which has 2 processors but cost around 650.00 to 700.00 bux.......This is the best video card out at the moment........

Scott|||as others have said, the 5870 is a very good card, best single core graphics card on the market, but, i recommend 2 4890's in crossfirex because it is cheaper and they also run faster

if you do not mind losing dx11, and if u have the proper motherboard for crossfire, than i recommend the 4890's, if you want dx11, than the only choice is a 5870 or 2 5770's in crossfirex|||Nvidia GTX260 or an Nvidia GTX295, or an ATI equivalnt (They have more memory) but if you can, you should buy two GTX260's and do SLI mode, it's worth it, twice the power.|||The ATI HD 5870 is now the best card on the market until nVidia or AT release an even more powerful one. This card is better than the nVidia GTX 295 and runs cooler.
