Should I buy a better processor or better video card for the same price?

an amd phenom ii x4 965 black edition (3.4 Ghz) and an ati radeon 5770 or an amd phenom ii x4 955 black edition (3.2 Ghz) and an ati radeon 5850, both processors are quad cores and both video cards are 1 GB, these two combinations are about the same price.

what about an amd phenom ii x4 945 (quad core @ 3.0 Ghz) with an ati radeon 5850 (1 GB), does the video card affects games more or does processors affect games more?|||I would say get the 965 black edition. i have it, its great. and I recommend the 5770, then when you get some more money get another and put it in crossfire.

two 5770s are the same price as the 5850. they also outperform the 5850.

make sure your motherboard supports crossfire, make sure it supports the sockets for the 965.

make sure its pci e 2.0 for the 5770. or even the 5850.|||With games, the CPU and GPU affect the game almost equally. (with a slight edge on the CPU, since it does a lot of the work) And it's worth noting that video RAM doesn't really mean much of anything on a video card. I've seen unbelievably crappy video cards with over 1GB of RAM, even though the video card can't even use 1/2 of that ram effectively.
