Other than using a Matrox Video Card, what is the best way to achieve powerful Dual-head capability?

I'm a designer and I used to use a Matrox G450 video card at my last place of work to give me Dual-head capability - ie. the desktop was spread across 2 x 20" monitors. I've now gone out alone and I would like to upgrade my home system as cheaply and as effectively as possible. I remember that although the Matrox card was spot-on, it could not cope with 3D images very well and was not supported by modern games. I would prefer to have some kind of 3D capability if possible. Also a requirement is that I would occasionally like to be able to have different resolutions on the different monitors - something the Matrox card did very well. I would like to know if it is possible to do this sort of thing without having to buy a new Matrox card - all of the Matrox cards I've looked at have been priced in excess of £150 and I really can't afford that at the moment. Can I do this with a "normal" video card? How?? Many thanks in advance!|||Matrox cards are on the way out. I haven't used one for years!

I'm 3D CAD designer and I'm using 2 monitors 19"

I have NVIDIA Quadro NVS card 440 which comes with a y cable for two DVI's or two DSUB's.

There are three models NVS 285 (Cheap £80-100) NVS 280 (PCI cheap £80-100) and the NVS 440 (not so cheap £200-250 but powerful)

QUADRO cards provide full multi monitor support. Not just desktop cloning.|||Windows XP supports multiple video cards / hardware.

Therefore, you should be able to have two cards in the machine, and Windows will reflect it in the display settings. Just remember that one of them may well have to be a PCI card, because most machines only have the one normal graphics card slot.|||buy a mobo, with no graphics on board, or graphics that you can easily match.. u would have to check with the manufacturer, that the boards bios supported 2 cards.. but if u find a board with nothing onboard, just buy a pair of matched pci cards, and it should work..|||http://www.tigerdirect.com

find yourself|||Just put two video cards in, or buy a card (e.g. ATI 9600 based card) that has two output & two CRT controllers. You can sped anywhere from £20 upwards no problems.

Note that if you get a card with VGA analog & DVI outputs & have 2x analog monitors you may need a (cheap) adapter to convert the DVI-I plug to the normal DB15 VGA pinout.

Video card help-- I'm looking for a mid-range video card, price about 70 to 130 dollars?

I always buy from Newegg and like 256 bit with lots of pixel shaders(320 to 800) preferably if price allows. I'm not a big gamer but I am impatient when switching screens. I have built my own pc and thought I knew a lot but more minds are better than 1. I have an AMD quad Phenom 9850(last years model) with 4gigs 1066 ddr2. O.S. is windows vista 64bit I bought about 2 months ago with windows 7 free upgrade. The video card needs to work with this hardware and software.|||http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Is what i use, it works great.|||If you can stretch your budget to $145 then you can pick up a shiny 4870 with 1GB of RAM. Probably about the best thing you can get in that price range.

Conversely, for $120 + shipping you can get a 1GB 4850 which will give you slightly less performance.|||Ok. You are looking for something mediocre for gaming with a simple budget. Be glad to help you there.

For NVidia Geforce products you can go with a 9600gt, 9800gt, or the elder 8800gt via New Egg or Tiger Direct.

For Ati Radeon HD Series, here are your options, great ones too. 4650HD, 4670, 3850.

Try New Eggs site or Tiger Direct before thinking of Best Buy or Radio Shack.

Video Card and price question?

I've been looking around for a new video card for my computer. I think I have found what I like but getting things shipped to my apartment is hard (I have a PO box and trying to explain to UPS/Fed Ex how to get to my apartment is hard). So ordering it online isn't really an option. I was just planning on buying it at Staples. But, once I looked at Amazon, they have the same card for $100 less. I'm almost 100% its the same card (same model number and everything). Does anyone know if Staples does price matching?

Here are links to both pages for reference:

http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/p…

http://www.amazon.com/PNY-Verto-GeForce-…|||Yes, those are the same two cards indeed. Retail usually doesn't price match. Your better off buying off amazon.com. With the price from Stables, you could buy the 8800GT which is twice as better then the 8500GT.

If you solve your shipping complications, you should buy it online. Much cheaper and more convienent.

Stables is a rip off, so is any other retail stores like Best Buys, Fry's, or Good Guys, etc.. If your going to buy computer parts, buy them online from a reputable website such as www.Newegg.com|||Nope. infact stapeles probalby makes most of there money off of selling old cards at older prices. If i were you find a friend who lives in a house and get it shiped there. If that dosen't work then go to a local computer specialty shope not like a staples or a best buy and get it there

What is the best video card out for gaming that is a reasonable price?

whats the best video card out for playing the new games that are out plus the games that are coming out that is a reasonable price|||That all depends on price range.

Best at top, "less best" at bottom

nvidia GTX 295 - $509

AMD 4870 X2 - $459

GTX 285 - $339

4850 X2 - $279

GTX 260 (216 cores) - $209

4870 (1gb memory) - $189

nvidia gts 250 - $129

nvidia 9800GT - $99

nvidia 9600GT - $79

AMD 4670 (gddr3) - $75

AMD 4650, 3850, & nvidia 9500/8600GT all at ~$55

If you want something that will last you a while I would recommend a gtx 260 or a gts 250 (low is $129 for 512mb model but you can get a 1 gb model for $179). But if those are too expensive yet, then please refer to my list.|||GTX 260 216 core 55nm is the best budget card around and it rocks.

I've seen one of these for £150 today - that's stunning value but what resolution is your monitor?|||MSI GX620

What video card should I get?

What video card should I get?

I bought World of Warcraft and my video card won't run the game. I don't want to spend much on a new card but would like to play the game. Where can I find a good card for a low price?|||for wow you really dont need a uber high end card.. please amend your question to state if you prefer nvidia or ati and i can help you out.

Keep in mind if you like raiding OR a lotta custom UIs you might want a slightly stronger then needed card.

Also if you play on a busy server.

Something like ATI 9550 can be had for 50$ or under and runs warcraft great.|||I would go with Nivida geforce. Look on www.tigerdirect.com or www.newegg.com . I would get the geforce 7600. I have it and it isn't expensive and it plays all the games on high quality. Now if you have PCI only computer, I would froget about gameing because they make all the new computer video cards for AGP and PCI e x16.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/…

^^ Link for the PCI E one. Read the reviews and they will even tell you its a awsome card.

First I would check and see what type of BUS ports you have in your pc. There are 3 types PCI, PCI e, AGP.

Is it worth the money for the video card upgrade?

looking at getting the Visiontek Radeon HD 3870 Video Card - 512MB GDDR4 from bestbuy for $150. but the Visiontek Radeon HD 3870 Video Card - 1GB GDDR3 online sells for around $400. is it really worth the $350+ price tag?|||Yeah, that's a lot of money to drop on a video card. If you have that kind of cash just layin' around, it would certainly give you bragging rights for in game chat ;). If not, I would stick with a cheaper one that is nicer than your current one, and you should be able to run most games at a decent framerate.

You should check out the video cards on Newegg, you will probably find a nicer one for cheaper compared to BestBuy|||The difference is that the DDR4 is faster, so the 512 version is faster in almost everything. The only exception is if you have a VERY large monitor (bigger than 26") then you need the extra memory. If your monitor is 26" or smaller (1900x1200 or less) then you are better off with the 512 meg version with the faster DDR4. Don't waste your money! Get the 512 and have fun gaming :)|||in all honesty is it worth it is a question you should ask yourself. what do you plan on doing, if you play very graphic intense games, such as crysis, F.E.A.R., or something along that line then the extra cash will be pretty worth it. although gddr4 is faster, 1gb of gddr3 still provides better performance over 512 mb of gddr4. if you are just a casual gamer, you could probably actually spend a little less then the cheaper one and still have a good gaming experience. it's up to you.|||I don't think so in my opinion. Anything you get will nicely run virtually any game considering these are both cutting edge cards. I assume you have a crappy one so anything new will exceed your expectations

How good is this Video Card and How Good is its price?

A programmer friend agreed to sell me an ATI RAEDON 9550 Internal DAC (400Mhz) Video Memory 256MB dual function and directx compliant. (fairly used). He agreed to sell it for $21.

1. How good is this card? (in terms of application support, reliability and ruggedness)

2. Is the price really worth it? What is its normal price? Is this price good relative to its normal price?

3. Would you recommend this card for me? I will be using it to play games like GTA4, Splinters Cell, Prince of Persia, Call of Duty 4; and i will be doing Character Modelling, Rendering, Texturing, Animation, Video Post-editing and special effects.

4. Would you recommend another card which is of a better make and at a relatively cheaper price and better specifications?

Thank you.|||from the 256 MB dual function alone,

maybe PoP or CoD 4 will lag... I havent tried, but maybe you should ask him... I found video card lists and its Direct X compatibles on wiki or just google it... then check prices on ebay even though youre not gonna buy it.

Thank you so much for your answer on my MS Word -font question.. thank God.|||i don't know.i'm sorry.|||its a pretty old card, save your money and invest for a new card|||Not very. This card is VERY, VERY old.

Go with something like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

These are AGP cards, since I'm assuming that's the type of bus your computer still uses. The third video card is an FX card, designed especially for computer modeling. But the other two can be used for computer animation as well.

EDIT:

The best AGP card you can possibly get, I think would have to be the GeForce 7xxx series of cards...but those are very hard to find, especially in AGP and tend to be expensive because of their rarity.

A little more expensive, but both under $90 a piece.
